Our latest finds include several fabulous Guinness promotional pieces. These oil-on-canvas originals created for the ad agency, SH Benson. This particular one dates from 1942 and is by John Gilroy - the artist responsible for creating the most famous Guinness advertising art concepts, including the iconic Toucan. Others are by Sir Tom Eckersley - knighted by George IV during WWII for his contribution to the war efforts. The art was to be used as images for magazine ads and posters. The pieces were submitted to the ad agency for review and were marked up and returned to the artist for changes. These pieces were NEVER seen by the general public and so are truly "one of a kind"!
The quality is really quite amazing when one considers the "preliminary" nature of the artist's concepts.
